Kumo does exactly what it's supposed to do--no more, and no less. You can get a decent meal in a casual, clean place with contemporary decor and the cost and quality of the food is average for the area.
The place gets busy, and the staff is busy, so you might wait around a little for drinks or menus, depending. But the food arrives relatively timely, it's good, and there are no unpleasant surprises. The salad has nice, crisp lettuce and a good ginger dressing, the miso soup is miso-y (and increases the secretion of gastric juices, as it is meant to), the squid salad is very good, and some of the rolls are good (tempura shrimp) and some are meh (I have a blatant disrespect for any spicy tuna roll that does not use whole pieces tuna).
I think the draw for Kumo--for me--would be Hibachi without the theater. I like teppanyaki-style food but I don't like the Hibachi grill rigmarole. I think our best grill is probably Ichiban in Hixson (feel free to dispute it, but anyone lauding Kampai gets an internet-style punch in the mouth), and Kumo is a good compromise if you want to avoid Ichiban's dinner prices/crowds/cooking show or other members of your party prefer a wider range of sushi to choose from.
